Artist Statement

As a young artist, I believed I knew exactly what my work meant and that that meaning was stable and secure. As I continue to learn and grow as an artist at Kansas City Art Institute, I understand that my work evolves as I evolve through life. Catharsis is at the center of my practice. I use printmaking, digital media, photography, and performance to confront my questions about the world around me. Strong feminine elements and symbols, movement, and bright, tropical colors are recurring themes in my work. I work from the perspective of women of color; vitality, strength, and femininity are complex forces in my life and practice.
